Is there HOPE for the Philippines?

-- On Fri, 11/7/08, Phoebe Dakanay wrote:

Forty years ago, we were only second to Japan in economic stature, and way ahead of Singapore , Hong Kong , Malaysia, and Thailand .

Today, at our present growth rate, it will take us 30 years to get to where Thailand is.1. A population of 160 Million;2. Of those, 70 to 90 million (equivalent to our current population) willlive below the poverty line;3. Our national debt is estimated to be at US$200B (compared to US$28B when Marcos fled, and US$53B today);4. We will be competing, not against Thailand or even Vietnam , but against Bangladesh;5. We will be the most corrupt nation in Asia, if not in the world (we're already ranked 11th most corrupt nation by Transparency International) ....The signs are clear. Our nation is headed towards an irreversible path of economic decline and moral decadence. It is not for lack of effort. We've seen many men and women of integrity in and out of government, NGOs, church groups & people's organization devote themselves to the task of nation-building, often times against insurmountable odds. But not even two people's revolutions, bloodless as they may be, have made a dent in reversing this trend. At best, we have moved one step forward, but three steps backward.

We need a force far greater than our collective efforts, as a people, can ever hope to muster. It is time to move the battle to the spiritual realm. It's time to claim GOD's promise of healing of the land for His people. It's time to gather GOD's people on its knees to pray for the economicrecovery and moral reformation of our nation. Is prayer really the answer? Before you dismiss this as just anotherrambling of a religious fanatic, I'd like you to consider some lessons we can glean from history.England 's ascendancy to world power was preceded by the Reformation, aspiritual revival fueled by intense prayers. The early American settlers built the foundation that would make it themost powerful nation today - a strong faith in GOD and a disciplined prayer life. Throughout its history, and especially at its major turning points, waves of revival and prayer movement swept across the land.

In recent times, we see Korea as a nation experiencing revival and in the process producing the largest Christian church in the world today, led by Rev. Paul Yongi Cho. No wonder it has emerged as a strong nation when other economies around it are faltering.Even from a purely secular viewpoint, it makes a lot of sense. For herethere is genuine humbling and seeking of GOD through prayer, moralreformation necessarily follows. And this, in turn, will lead to general prosperity. YES, we believe prayer can make a difference. It's our only hope.

Today, we launch this email brigade, to inform Filipinos from all over the world to pray, as a people, for the economic recovery and moral reformation of our nation. We do not ask for much. We only ask for 5 minutes of your time in a day, to forward this email to your close friends and relatives. This is the kind of unity which can make a big difference. Of course, if you feel strongly, as I do, about the power of prayer, you can be more involved by starting your own prayer group or prayer center. We have tried people power twice; in both cases, it fell short. Maybe it's time to try prayer power. GOD never fails. Is there hope? YES! We can rely on God's promise, but we have to do our part. If we humble ourselves and =pray as a people, GOD will heal our land. By GOD's grace, we may yet see a better future for our children.'If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land.'(2 Chronicles 7:14).If you care for your children and grandchildren, PLEASE pass this on...Let's not just abandon the Philippines

You've Made Me Stronger

You've Made Me Stronger
November 8th, 2008 - by maryanneco

Is it hard to believe I’m okay
After all, its been awhile
Since you walked away
I’m way past crying
Over you finding someone else
You turned my days into nights
But now I see the light
And this maybe a big surprise to you
But you’ve made me stronger
By breaking my heart
You ended my life
And made a better one start
You taught me everything
From falling in love
To letting go of life
Yes, you’ve made me stronger
Baby, by saying goodbye

If you try to believe I’m not over you
Go ahead Theres nothing wrong with making believeI know
‘Coz I used to pretend you’d come back to me
But time has been such a friend
Brought me to my senses again
And I have you to thanked
For setting me free
‘Coz you’ve made me stronger
By breaking my heart
You ended my life
And made a better one start
You taught me everything
From falling in love
To letting go of a lie
Yes, you’ve made me stronger
Baby, by saying goodbye

Think again
Don’t feel so sorry for me, my friend
Oh, don’t you know
I’m not the one at the loosing end
‘Coz you’ve made me stronger
By breaking my heart
You ended my life
And made a better one start
You taught me everything
From falling in love
To letting go of a lie
Yes, you’ve made me stronger
Baby, by saying goodbye

You ended my life
And made a better one start
You taught me everything
From falling in love
To letting go of a lie
Yes, you’ve made me stronger
Baby, by saying goodbye, goodbye
You’ve made me stronger
Baby, by saying goodbye

A cure for cobra bites

In the southern part of the Philippines, there is a mixed liquid that already cured a lot of victims bitten by the famous king cobra. In fact, this said liquid did more, as it also helped those who have been infected by cuts caused by rusty pointed objects, such as nails and other similar things. It is hard for me to elaborate it at the moment, but this is really a wonder. If incase you know anyone who is fond of research, then reply to this post. The person I am telling you a while ago is a friend, and can be contacted if need be. here's the e-mail address: richvision2007@gmail.com

Improvement is always a prerequisite to success. No one will ever become a success without first improving his or her original self. Take for instance a professional world boxer, the latter has his humble beginnings as an amateur. Another example is that of a basketball player, he needs a coach to hone his potential inorder to become a star. Now, let's talk about you. Do you want to improve yourself? Let's be specific; incase you are smoking, do you want to stop it? incase your weight is a little heavy, do you want to reduce some? or maybe, you want to end the use of drugs or need to stop drinking. You can't do it alone; I mean, you can't stop it without any help. Well, to understand what I mean, visit this site for subliminal tapes : http://www.subliminal-tapes-self-improvement.com/ Sometimes we try to stop bad habits by fighting our minds; this manner of killing the selfmade monster in us is stressful. Teaching English in Thailand and China

There was a time where I happened to view a beautiful photo of a place located somewhere in Australia. I said to myself “ what a nice place it is; how I wish I am in this place”. Most often, we like to have something others have; specially, if it is a good thing. As the old maxim goes “ The grass seems greener on the other side of the fence”. But is it always greener? Let’s talk about the profession of a Filipino English teacher. Well, getting a job as an English teacher in other countries is not easy.. However, it’s worth it, in some cases. If you have the experience of teaching English in either Thailand or China, You might agree with me that it is not very easy to get a job quickly; It is a mixture of credentials, personality and luck. If you are eyeing for that particular profession ( teaching English Abroad ) You have to prepare yourself by building your credentials and personality. Luck is beyond your control. You can ask God to assist you instead of nailing your hope in the hands of “luck”. I remember a true incident in thailand, where a number of would be teachers lined up for an interview, when an applicant from the United states appeared infront of a lady interviewer, the latter got mesmerized by his handsome appearance. He got the job without hassle. Another incident happened in the life of a man, almost 50 years of age, and not gifted with an appearance fit to be an actor; nevertheless, with a stroke of luck, he got accepted as a teacher , a permanent substitute of the one who just left. If you sometimes entertain the idea of teaching English abroad, then I can give you tips. Thanks for reading. Tips and Techniques on How to Improve your MEMORY

Simply put, memory is the mental activity of recalling information that you have learned or experienced.

If our brains were computers, we'd simply add a chip to upgrade our memory. However, the human brain is more complex than even the most advanced machine, so improving human memory requires slightly more effort.

Just like muscular strength, your ability to remember increases when you exercise your memory and nurture it with a good diet and other healthy habits. There are a number of steps you can take to improve your memory and retrieval capacity.

1) Pay attention. You can’t remember something if you never learned it, and you can’t learn something — that is, encode it into your brain — if you don’t pay enough attention to it. It takes about eight seconds of intent focus to process a piece of information through your hippocampus and into the appropriate memory center. So, no multitasking when you need to concentrate! If you distract easily, try to receive information in a quiet place where you won’t be interrupted

2) Organize information. Write things down in address books and datebooks and on calendars; take notes on more complex material and reorganize the notes into categories later. Use both words and pictures in learning information.

3) Be motivated and keep a positive attitude. Tell yourself that you want to learn what you need to remember, and that you can learn and remember it. Telling yourself you have a bad memory actually hampers the ability of your brain to remember, while positive mental feedback sets up an expectation of success.

4) Visual images - a microphone to remember the name “Mike,” a rose for “Rosie.” Use positive, pleasant images, because the brain often blocks out unpleasant ones, and make them vivid, colorful, and three-dimensional — they’ll be easier to remember.

5) Involve as many senses as possible. Even if you’re a visual learner, read out loud what you want to remember. If you can recite it rhythmically, even better. Try to relate information to colors, textures, smells and tastes. The physical act of rewriting information can help imprint it onto your brain. ( Source: http://www.helpguide.org/ )

Microchip to be implanted in humans in 2012?

It has been reported that the govt. plans to have everyone implanted with microchip devices by the year 2012.Europe & the United States have plans to begin implantation of newborns after they are born soon. Many people (including some of our servicemen) have already been implanted."THEY" make it sound so great, so much simplicity in medical, travel, banking and so on.. basically we will all have UPC CODES and an implant the size of a grain of rice embedded into our bodies. Now there are still reports of veri-chips (microchips) causing cancer etc., in some pets... so why would they go ahead and FDA approve these CHIPS into humans?Do you think it is in our best interest?
Carlos Altamirano is implanted with the VeriChip, a microchip that is used to confirm everything from health history to identity. The microchips, already available in the United States, could tap into a growing industry surrounding Mexico's criminal concerns. Kidnappings, robberies and fraud are common here, and Mexicans are constantly looking for ways to protect themselves against crime. The microchip, the size of a grain of rice, is implanted in the arm or hip. Hospital officials and security guards use a scanning device to download a serial number, which they then use to access blood type, name and other information on a computer.
How much?
One chip costs $150 and has a $50 annual fee. The scanning device and related software cost $1,200. Users can update and manage their chips' information by calling a 24-hour customer service line.

Apollo 14 astronaut claims aliens HAVE made contact - but it has been covered up for 60 years

Aliens have contacted humans several times but governments have hidden the truth for 60 years, the sixth man to walk on the moon has claimed.Apollo 14 astronaut Dr Edgar Mitchell, said he was aware of many UFO visits to Earth during his career with NASA but each one was covered up.Dr Mitchell, 77, said during a radio interview that sources at the space agency who had had contact with aliens described the beings as 'little people who look strange to us.'He said supposedly real-life ET's were similar to the traditional image of a small frame, large eyes and head.Chillingly, he claimed our technology is 'not nearly as sophisticated' as theirs and "had they been hostile", he warned 'we would be been gone by now'.Dr Mitchell, along with with Apollo 14 commander Alan Shepard, holds the record for the longest ever moon walk, at nine hours and 17 minutes following their 1971 mission.'I happen to have been privileged enough to be in on the fact that we've been visited on this planet and the UFO phenomena is real,' Dr Mitchell said.'It's been well covered up by all our governments for the last 60 years or so, but slowly it's leaked out and some of us have been privileged to have been briefed on some of it.( source: www.dailymail.co.uk)

Studies assess risk of suicide by students, Asian Americans

WASHINGTON (AFP) — About 15 percent of college students have entertained suicidal thoughts at some point, while five percent have attempted to take their life, according to a study released this week.
The web-based survey of 26,000 students at 70 colleges and universities was conducted in the spring of 2006 by the National Research Consortium of Counseling Centers in Higher Education and written by experts at the University of Texas at Austin.
The research was presented in Boston, Massachusetts this week at a convention of the American Psychological Association (APA).
About six percent of undergraduate students and four percent of graduate students said they seriously considered suicide in the year preceding the survey.
The researchers said the findings underscore the dearth of mental health resources for college students. They said suicide prevention needed to involve a cross-section of college administrators, student leaders, faculty, parents and counselors.
"This would reduce the percentage of students who engage in suicidal thinking, who contemplate how to make an attempt and who continue to make attempts," said psychologist David Drum, a lead author on the study.
Most students described their typical episode of suicidal thinking as lasting one day or less and more than half of subjects queried said they opted not to confide in a friend or relative or seek professional help.
Students gave various reasons for contemplating suicide, including the desire to find relief from emotional or physical pain, problems with a romantic relationship, and problems with school or academics.
Of those who made actual suicide attempts, half said their method of choice was an overdose of drugs, the report said.
A separate study released at the APA convention found that Asian Americans whose families experience a high degree of interpersonal conflict have a three-fold greater risk of attempting suicide compared with Asian Americans overall.
The study, conducted by University of California in Davis, found that 2.7 percent of the Asian Americans reported attempting suicide at some point during their lives, and 9.1 percent reported having had suicidal thoughts.
"Because of the great emphasis on harmony and family integration in many Asian cultures, family conflict is an important factor to consider when studying suicidal behaviors among Asian Americans," said Stanley Sue, a professor of psychology and Asian American studies at the university.
While focusing on Asian Americans, researchers said the study was not designed to compare rates of suicide among different ethnic groups.
"Our study suggests that we need to more precisely determine the kinds of family conflicts that are associated with suicide risk among Asian Americans, and find means of preventing these family problems," said Sue. ( Source: Google News )

This month of August, Millions of Elvis' fans around the world will remember him. There is something in him, a special kind of charisma, that won't let him go. But did Elvis really died? I wish I stayed longer in Bangkok

I remember a line in a song that says "Good things never last". Do you think the statement is true? Well, sometimes I force myself to believe otherwise, but based on experience and observation, good things really never last. So, if you are in a good situation now, enjoy it, for in an unpredicted moment, it will certainly cease.

Microwave Oven is Dangerous

I received an e-mail from a friend, I thought it as "junk" at first, but as my eyes continue to roll along the sentences, it dawned on me that the information is worth reading. To preserve the efficacy of how it is presented, a portion of it is copied exactly as it is printed.

(Quote) 'Below is a science fair project that a Girl did for 2006. In it she took filtered water and divided it into two parts. The first part she heated to boiling in a pan on the stove, and the second part she heated to boiling in a microwave. Then after cooling she used the water to water two identical plants to see if there would be any difference in the growth between the normal boiled water and the water boiled in a microwave. She was thinking that the structure or energy of the water may be compromised by microwave. As it turned out, even she was amazed at the difference.'

From the conclusions of the Swiss, Russian and German scientific clinical studies, we can no longer ignore the microwave oven sitting in our kitchens. Based on this research, we will conclude this article with the following: 1). Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes long term - permanent - brain damage by 'shorting out' electrical impulses in the brain [de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue]. 2). The human body cannot metabolize [break down] the unknown by-products created in microwaved food. 3). Male and female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by continually eating microwaved foods. 4). The effects of microwaved food by-products are residual [long term, permanent] within the human body. 5). Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is reduced or altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down. 6). The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when cooked in microwave ovens. 7). Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths [tumors]. This may explain the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in America. 8). The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood. 9). Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies through lymph gland and blood serum alterations. ( Unquote )
I did not say that Microwave oven is dangerous, but the result of different studies show that it is.

Most Filipinos in the U.S. have a "changed" attitude

I have been existing in this world for almost 40 years. I am a filipino and has spent most of those years in the Philippines. I am not sure if my observations are true, just try to read some and share a comment. We are talking about observations here in general, of course a few still embrace the old Filipino attitude.

a) Most Filipinos in the U.S. are not as generous as Filipinos living in the Philippines.

Explanation:

Filipinos in the Philippines are fond of giving something to their lovedones and friends during birthdays, special events, in times of need and emergencies.

The amount usually given ranges from 50 pesos to 300 pesos ; However, after living in the United states for a considerable time, they cannot afford to share even just 40 pesos to lovedones or friends in the Philippiines. It seems to be so big to share.

Note: It appears to be contradictory, because Filipinos in the Philippines earn very little compared to their fellow Filipinos living in the United states.

b) Most Filipinos in the United states communicate less with their friends and acquaintances in the Philippines.

Explanation:

When they were in the Philippines, they write, call or text their friendsor acquaintances a lot. When they stay in America, they became so busy that they can’t even write a single e-mail or text to their friends ( except to their closest lovedones ).

Note: I feel( this is just a feeling ) that they are avoiding frequent contact to friends and acquaintances, because they have the idea that the latter cannot contribute to them in anyway, but only ask for money or help. So to avoid that kind of a situation, they will lessen the communication to develop a gap in between.

I will not say more, I encourage you to observe, then write it down. Send it to this e-mail address: dreamreal96@yahoo.com

Sing and the world can hear

Many years back, there was an invention called a “ Jukebox ”, anytime you want to listen to your favorite singer, you just get a coin and insert it into that magic music machine. The term “ Jukebox ” did not appear until the late 1930’s. Now, there is a big change, the coming of the known “Karaoke” did divert the coarse from listening to performing. To better understand what the latter means, here’s a simple definition. It is a music entertainment system providing prerecorded accompaniment to popular songs that a performer sings live, usually by following the words on a video screen. You can find people singing using karaoke, but most often, only their friends can hear it. Try this new system, let the world hear you sing and receive inspiring comments from your listeners. You can now experience what singers feel without any cost.. Listen to these romantic songs, then click the join botton after that.

Things most Women Hate about Men

Many years ago, when I was in the prime of my college life, I happened to listen unintentionally to a gossip, initiated by the attractive girls of the nursing department. I heard one of them said “ Oh, I am disappointed by the attitude displayed by my secret crush; I thought he is ok, but he is so arrogant”. Well, let’s try to expand our thinking starting from that girl’s comment. What are the things most women hate about men? We will discuss only four, though there are more. First, women hate men who are weak. They don’t like it when a man act like a little boy, always depending on the woman for a decision. Second, women hate men who can’t place their feelings on a proper level. I remember a comment stated by a girl concerning his boyfriend, it goes “ I love my man, but I hate him for calling me almost every hour in a day; it distracts my job”. Third, women hate men who are liers. I don’t need to elaborate that, It can easily be understood without much explanation. Fourth, women hate men who brags about themselves. For instance, “ Money is not a problem, I got ten ATM’s with me right now ”. The number of electronic cards he got is not an issue, what is important is for him to act on it. If you have more ideas about the things women hate about men, I encourage you to send it to this e-mail address: chatemails@yahoo.com
